What information is actually missing?
Distinguish between a formal term, a colour request and a description of the mood. A requested colour does not tell you whether a long outdoor walk is involved. A phrase such as relaxed but festive says little about which shoes work on the ground. Identify the unresolved decision before asking.
Instead of asking for the perfect outfit, describe two existing options: fabric trousers with a blouse, for example, or a knee-length dress. The host can usually respond more concretely than to a general question about elegance. Ask for relevant information if the venue has particular rules.
Weigh the clues
Explicit instructions are more reliable than pictures of similar events. A restaurant photograph may show the interior but not your hosts' intentions. The time of day alone does not define a complete clothing style either. Use such clues only as supporting information when nothing clearer is available.
At weddings or other personal celebrations, colour wishes and particular guests' roles can matter. Ask directly when uncertain instead of claiming a universal rule. For work events, the organiser can explain expected clothing and any protective requirements.
Choose an adjustable combination
If a question still produces no precise answer, choose an existing combination that can change through one layer. Plain trousers with a top and a removable jacket, for instance, provide more flexibility than an outfit that works only with the outer layer fully closed.
That does not mean a blazer solves every uncertainty. The combination must still suit your comfort, the temperature and the movements involved. Check it while seated and without the jacket. A dress with a suitable additional layer can offer the same flexibility.
Do not build a precautionary shopping list
Before buying anything, try available pieces together completely. You may need only a different arrangement or a repaired fastening. A new item should fill a specific gap rather than cover a general feeling of uncertainty.
Briefly record the confirmed information. Once you have an answer about clothing, you do not need to compare every other opinion online again. Choose a complete combination in good time and check the functional details: shoes for the journey, room in the bag and a useful outer layer.
If the schedule changes later, respond specifically. When an indoor event becomes a garden reception, the ground and weather are the main new considerations. You do not automatically need to replace every garment. The invitation supplies the setting; actual use completes the selection.
