Try it with the real contents

Fill the bag as you intend to carry it. Books, a bottle or an extra jacket change its shape differently. A soft bag may become wider at the bottom and sit closer to the leg than when empty. Walk a few steps to notice how it swings.

Test the handles over the summer top. They may sit differently on a smooth blouse than on a cotton tee. If you often carry the bag in your hand, check whether its base clears the ground sufficiently. Another handle length may matter more than a closer colour match.

Place the print and colour

A large graphic becomes a motif in the outfit. It can deliberately accompany a patterned dress, but view both areas together. If the result feels too busy, try a plain bag before replacing the dress.

A plain tote can repeat an existing colour or provide clear contrast. A natural-coloured bag is not automatically invisible: its pale area stands out beside dark clothes. Decide from the worn outfit rather than an abstract idea of a neutral bag.

Keep it suitable for the journey

An open bag provides different storage from a closed one. Choose according to belongings and surroundings. Small items should not disappear loosely between larger ones when you need them frequently. An existing inner pocket or separate pouch can make organisation easier.

If rain is possible, an ordinary cloth tote does not automatically protect its contents. Check the actual properties and choose another bag if needed. Outfit colour comes afterwards. When two models meet the day's requirements, compare them in the mirror and choose the size and surface that work with the clothing.
